RICARDO MONTALBAN, actor and pioneer for Latinos in Hollywood, died Wednesday morning in Los Angeles at the age of 88. He starred in many films and on stage, but was probably best known for his role as Mr. Roarke, proprietor and chief chaperone of FANTASY ISLAND. MONTALBAN had memorable roles as Captain Kirk's formidable nemesis is STAR TREK: THE WRATH OF KHAN, a reprieve of the role he played in an episode of the TV series; in NAKED GUN: FROM THE FILES OF POLICE SQUAD; and on the primetime television soaps, DYNASTY and THE COLBYS.

He was discovered at Fairfax High School in Los Angles where he was studying English, and went on to star with some of the biggest leading ladies in the business, including CYD CHARISSE, ESTHER WILLIAMS, JUNE ALLYSON, SHELLEY WINTERS, YVONNE DE CARLO, LANA TURNER, ANNE BANCROFT, RHONDA FLEMING, HOPE LANGE, CARROLL BAKER, ELKE SOMMER, AGNES MOORHEAD, LENA HORNE, DEBBIE REYNOLDS, KATHERINE ROSS, SALLY KIRKLAND and ANNE MARGARET. Not bad for a skinny kid from Mexico.
