2.18.10 - LADY GAGA STORMED THE BRIT AWARDS.

LADY GAGA stormed the BRIT WARDS in London Tuesday night in white lace and platinum blonde 2-foot wig, winning 3 awards-Best International Female Artist, Best Breakthrough Act and Best International Album for her release "The Fame." In her acceptance speech, Miss GAGA honored ALEXANDER McQUEEN, who was found hanged in his apartment just 4 days earlier. GAGA was a friend of the exotic designer, and wore his bizarre "lobster claw" shoes in her "Bad Romance" video.

An investigation was announced into McQUEEN'S death yesterday in London. The 40-year old apparently committed suicide on the eve of his mother's funeral, but officials in London have not yet ruled the death a suicide.

Other winners Tuesday night included LILY ALLEN for Best British Female Solo Artist-her first, and FLORENCE & THE MACHINE for Best British Album, "Lung." JLS won for Best British Breakthrough Act and Best British Single, and KASABIAN for Best British Group. DIZZEE RASCAL won for Best British Male and JAY-Z won for International Male.

ROBBIE WILLIAMS wowed the audience after getting the Outstanding Contribution Award, the equivalent of a Lifetime Achievement Award for the 36-year old.

Among othes in attendance was KE$HYA, sure to find her way back next year as a nominee.

2.11.10 - Lady Gaga, Elton John and a Beautiful Baldwin
The buzz surrounding the Grammy Awards duet between Lady Gaga and Elton John lingered all last week, with postings of the glam-stoked performance appearing all over the web.
As reported previously, the dual-sided Baldwin piano at which Sir Elton and Gaga sat cut a dazzling figure in its own right – its most striking feature being the claw-hand arms jutting upwards from its surface.
To get the story behind the instrument – and to find out what inspired those arms – we spoke with the dual-piano’s designer, Terence Koh. One of the art world’s most provocative young visionaries, Koh has seen his work featured in major exhibitions around the world.
Applying his talents to two Baldwin® acoustic pianos, Koh helped provide the Grammys with one of the most memorable moments in its history. So pleased was Lady Gaga with his efforts, in fact, that she’s already commissioned him to fashion yet another Baldwin for her live shows.
In the following interview, Koh talks about the challenges involved with the project.
Did Lady GaGa come up with the vision for the dual-piano? Did Elton John -- or people acting on his behalf -- have creative input, as well?
I was approached by Lady Gaga to help visualize the duet between her and Elton. Since they would be singing and playing the piano together, I had the idea that they should be playing at the same piano, facing each other. I was given a lot of freedom as an artist to do pretty much what I wanted.
What did the arms and hands represent?
The hands were based on sculptures of hands I had done in a previous exhibition. Lady Gaga and I then thought it would be great for the hands to be claw-like, in dedication to her fans making a claw-shaped "monster hand." It was an homage to when you go to her concerts and you see a wave of those hands, which Lady Gaga calls her "little monsters.” It was about a sea of love and affection.
What was the idea behind the face-paint and ash that was smeared onto the faces of Elton and GaGa?
The idea for her to be thrown into an oven had already been conceptualized. Therefore it was only natural that Elton and Gaga should "emerge” for the performance together – maybe like a phoenix -- “ashed” as well.
What was the most difficult challenge involved in constructing the piano?
Well, I don't think anybody has ever done a Siamese piano like that. We had about five days to make it happen, so the logistics of taking new pianos and putting them together as one piano took a lot of thinking and planning.

2.10.10 -SADE - Soldier Of Love
2.10.10 -After 10 years in hiding, SADE finally has a new studio recording available, SOLDIER OF LOVE. Born HELEN FOLASADE ADU in Nigeria, the 51-year old singer and her band are now just SADE. She was raised in England, and has been living in Glaoucestershire, England where she has been raising her 13-year old daughter. In an interview with the NY Times at her home in England's west country, the singer revealed she has had a "partner", IAN WATTS, and she drives her Volvo into London on occasion tending to day-to-day life. Look for her to make several media appearances to promote the release, which is not a great departure from the R& B/jazz fusion sound that is trademark SADE. Another tour is no doubt coming, but as she told the Times, "I do want to get on the stage and sing the songs, but then I just want to disappear again."

1.31.10 - EVA MENDES
by: Memo Menos

EVA MENDES was at South Coast Plaza in Costa Mesa to launch her "Vida for España" line of flatware for Macy's. It is phase 2 of an interior design rollout for the actress, who backed a bedding line with MACY'S last year. As EVA told us, she has always had a love for interior design, and is blessed to travel the world, where she "stole" some of the ideas that adorn the china in this collection.

MENDES, who will be seen on screen later this year as WILL FERRELL'S crazy wife" in THE OTHER GUYS, and alongside "that actor from AVATAR," SAM WORTHINGTON in LAST NIGHT, was remarkably available to the hundreds of people who lined up to buy pieces from VIDA for ESPANA and get a signature and a few words with her.

EVA juggled the demands of a ravenous line of photographers and the need to spend a few quality minutes of "alone time" with her enchanted fans with laudable aplomb. And she looked great doing it.

To find out more about EVA'S merchandise with MACY'S go to: Macy's

Listen to EVA tell you herself in the video at the bottom of this piece.

1.26.10 - ANDY WHITFIELD, star of SPARTACUS: BLOOD AND SAND at the premiere at Arclight Theaters in Hollywood on January 14th, 2010. The series debuted Friday night on STARZ, with a sexy and graphically gory bow. The 13-hour series brings us another interpretation of the classic story-slave turned rebel against the Roman empire, but perhaps with more sex, both gay and straight, and blood, albeit stylized, than the original STANLEY KUBRICK film starring KIRK DOUGLAS.

After several rounds of competition, with each performing taking the stage in stunning make up and fabulous outfits, performer Shangela walked away with the bedazzled crown.

“I am thrilled to be the first ever California ‘Entertainer of the Year,’” Shangela emotionally declared from the stage.  “I plan on representing California proudly at the national EOY pageant in July.”

12.3.09 - GAY MARRIAGE CRASHED TIGERS SUV
by: Memo Menos

The story has dribbled out since Friday, morphing into a national tragedy.  America’s boy wonder, the world’s best golfer, billion-dollar athlete, “Just Do It” spokesman, and perhaps the most popular interracial husband on the planet has fallen.  Well, he was beaten with a club, but fallen nonetheless.  TIGER WOODS has “transgressed”, and truth be told, gay marriage is to blame.

It was the crush of same-sex nuptials, the two tuxedo walks down the aisle (and that’s the lesbian weddings), the blissful receptions (devoid of the typical mendacity that haunts most weddings), the hysteria of marriage ceremonies where both parties are actually ecstatic, it all finally took its toll on the WOOD’S household in the gated community of Isleworth this past weekend.

Think about it-Maine, Vermont, Connecticut and Massachusetts all marrying those same-sex couples within 1500 miles of the WOODS enclave.  It was bound to happen.  Conservatives have been screaming about it for years now.  And now, it has finally happened in the tree-lined lanes of Isleworth.

It’s a suburb of Orlando, and home to athletes and other well to do heteros.  You can just see the collective despair on those private roads, the mansions behind the wrought iron gates.  It must be difficult, toiling along in a straight marriage for these several years now that certain gays and lesbians have been allowed the right of marriage.  How are straight people able to cope?

All that joy, all the love that has been wafting down the Eastern seaboard, it was bound to happen.  We need only look back to that fateful day in May 2004 when Massachusetts started this slow, methodical death march on straight marriage.  The steady stream of happy gay couples has been flowing ever since.  It was then that TIGER’S problems began.

Just think back.  In that time, do you recall seeing him courtside at a Celtic game, even once?  He has ventured courtside to see the Magic, but he thought he was safe in Orlando.  Carefully nestled within rice throwing distance of the Bible belt and Disneyworld, who would have thought the gay marriage virus would ever reach central Florida?  But it has, and now that it has, where and when will it stop?

All those Eastern weddings, where else are they going to honeymoon?  South Beach screams gay honeymoon like the Adirondacks did for straights in the ‘50’s.  The problem is, the honeymoon creep has inched up to Ft. Lauderdale, and really, how much farther is it to Orlando?  It can’t be stopped.  Alabama and Mississippi are next.

The real problem is the glut of abandoned real estate in and around Miami.  So many available condos, such low prices, it was bound to happen.  The married gays are moving to Florida, and Ft. Lauderdale, and, dare I say, Orlando.  For some silly reason, gays like Disneyworld.  Something about fairies and fairy dust, and the happiest place on Earth, it’s like a gay calling card.  Engraved and everything.

Among heterosexuals, cheaters are on the rise.  It’s not the negative it once was on one’s resume.  In some professions, like politics and entertainment, it’s nearly a requirement for advancement in the industry.  Athletes are not far behind.  And while TIGER seemed the exception, he is merely the symptom.  He’s the canary in the coalmine of traditional marriage.  It is decaying, toxic, and crumbling all around us.

Something must be done, and fast.

That, no doubt, is why the New York state senate rejected gay marriage yesterday.  A measure that passed the Assembly there earlier this year, and was expected to pass the Senate and be signed by Governor DAVID PATESON, was roundly rejected 38-24 in what could be the country’s most liberal state.  You don’t think those lawmakers saw the writing on the wall.  Heterosexual marriage is under fire, and the situation is desperate.

You could hear the desperation in TIGER’S voice, as he called JAMIE GRUBBS, begging her to remove her name from her voicemail service, lest his wife ELIN, who recently gave birth to their second child, might figure out she was “carrying on” with TIGER.  You could figure it out yourself with the growing number of alleged mistresses TIGER has been now linked with, in just a week since this virus struck.  TIGER, it seems has been distracted from his wife, while she has been in and out of labor these past 2 years.

Gay marriages, as a rule, don’t have such peril.  Save the occasional lesbian couple that elects to have children together versus adopting each other’s from previous marriages, gay couples don’t go down this road.  Adoption is devoid of morning sickness.  Surrogate mothers alleviate the stretch-marked spouse.  Sex doesn’t take a holiday when 2 men “get pregnant”.

Straight men have it so much tougher.  Rich straight men worse still.

We can only be thankful, that, instead of driving the Escalade into a tree and fire hydrant, TIGER didn’t really lose it, commandeering that giant SUV out of that privileged community of Isleworth, into the gay ghettos of Tampa, or St. Pete, or even Orlando, where numerous gay men and women congregate in bars, or pride parades, or child-rearing classes at the “center”, where he might have taken out any number of potential husbands and husbands, or wives and wives.  Really, with a world-class athlete behind the wheels of a fine tuned machine like an Escalade, there’s no telling what damage he could have done.

So, we must think long and hard about the path we are going down with this same-sex marriage thing.  Is it really worth the fall of heterosexual society, and the destruction of faithful and loving straight couples for gays and lesbians to be treated equally as human beings with full civil rights in this country?

Hmmmmmm?

12.7.09 - KATHY GRIFFIN IS A WITCH! - KATHY GRIFFIN will be featured in SHREK FOREVER AFTER, the fourth and final installment in the SHREK saga, due out May 21, 2010. She will play a witch that hunts ogres, not much of a departure really for the red haired vamp. Should be a slam dunk for the so-called "D" list celebrity. SHREK FOREVER AFTER will be the first SHREK in 3-D, and audiences can get their first glimpse of the film in trailers to be screened in theaters showing AVATAR on December 18th.
