HAIR, the hippy, revolt, nudefest musical, is really just a coming of age story, with a message that transcends it's period piece reputation. Rooted in the sexual revolution 60's, with anti-war themes, anti-establishment plots, easy drugs and promiscuity that pre-dated the AIDS epidemic, HAIR is a ball.
The play opens with "The Age of Aquarius", a tune most will recognize, even if not in the baby boom generation. The full cast fills the stage, along with an orchestra/rock band that makes up most of the set. It's a raucus good time.
Other familiar tunes include "Hair", "Easy to be Hard", "Good Morning Starshine", and "Let the Sun Shine In", all performed with great energy, infusing the auditorium with psychedelic energy, as well as some cosmic hippies, who went forth into the audience with their groovy vibe. They stayed on stage for the sex scenes and the nudity however.
On this night the stars came out from not only the heavens, but the surrounding hillsides, as JESSE TYLER FERGUSON, ERIC STONESTREET, PATRICK WARBURTON, PATRICA HEATON, MINDY STERLING, SHIRLEY JONES, LORENZO LAMAS, SOFIA MILOS, CAMYRN MANHEIM, PETER PAIGE, ROBERT FORSTER, CHARLOTTE RAE, HOLLY ROBINSON PEETE, NOAH WILEY, TOMMY DAVIDSON and MELISSA MANCHESTER all showed up to channel their inner stoner.
